End of a Decade!

December 2019

Well, this is the last blog of 2019 and the last one of this decade. What an amazing year it’s been. Thank you for your support and encouragement as I step into the world of wellness coaching. I am committed to listen and help you explore your paths to health, to create pathways to release the aches and pains, and to make more energy available every day. Build a solid, healthy foundation in your internal, physical, and natural worlds. Now that sounds like a Challenge for the New Decade.

 

How Do You Spread Joy? was the theme of the December Meet-Up that I lead here in Bozeman. We all shared examples of how joy manifests in our lives. A few ways that were mentioned is to admire the lights that people put up in their neighborhoods, create “Santa and reindeer footprints in ‘ashes’ on the floor in front of the fireplace,” give a plate of cookies to elderly neighbors, send a letter to someone to let them know you’re thinking of them, ask a cashier how their day is going and really listen to their answer. Sharing ways we spread joy was a source of joy for all of us.

 

A few days later I went to two very different Solstice celebrations. One was a 108 Salutes to the Sun class. I was on my yoga mat between two women I didn’t know and we created an amazing flow throughout the 108 Salutes. Why 108 you might ask? Here are a few revelations from around the world:

It is believed we have 108 feelings of which 36 are related to the past, 36 to the present, and 36 to the future, and there are 108 sacred places in the body,

the diameter of the Sun is 108 times the diameter of the Earth,

the Sanskrit alphabet has 54 letters and each letter has a male and female equivalent 54x2=108,

there are 12 astrological signs and 9 planets. 12x9=108,

the diameter of the Sun multiplied by 108 equals the distance between the Sun and the Earth,

the diameter of the Moon multiplied by 108 equals the distance between the Earth and the Moon.

Try out a Solstice Class if you ever get a chance. The energy in the room builds as the class progresses. I was swept into Down Dog, Plank, and Up Dog by others in the room. Put your knees down as you transition between the floor poses. Take a break if you need it. Go for it next time.

 

The other Solstice Class was very meditative, a time to pause and go within. We were invited to write things/thoughts/feelings we wanted to release and then we burned them in a metal bowl. A slow flow yoga class ensued followed by more writing of our intentions for the new year. The mantra that came to me is to “follow my heart.” This should be interesting!

 

As we close out the year/decade among friends and family, take time to think about ways to get energized to get and stay healthy. The Ram Das quote, “If you think you’re enlightened, spend a week with your family,” puts our peaceful demeanors into a new focus. When emotional triggers come up (and they almost always do,) count to 10 before saying or doing anything. Take a walk, even if it’s up and down a flight of stairs. Turn on chill music to alter the environment. Take a look at my FaceBook live videos. They’re 10-15 minutes long and have a few yoga poses to help move the energy a bit. Stay calm and drink tea ;-)
