April 2023 Newsletter      Are transitions hard for you?

Transitions can be hard. Be gentle with yourself.

One of the foundational beliefs in my company ARAY Wellness Coaching is that there isn’t anything stronger than a circle of women. Support is critical. Shifts can be challenging. That’s what makes them exciting, and, let’s not forget, hard.

I remember, years ago, the dread when it was the end of my kids’ three hours of TV time/week. They’d fuss and try to finagle more screen time. I’d feel exhausted and they’d stomp off to their rooms or out into the yard.

I’m noticing a similarity in myself as as days lengthen and temperatures rise. All winter, we’ve been cozy on the couch, reading or binge-watching shows and movies. We’ve slept more. We’ve run from our cars into the house. We haven’t had as much interaction with others.

Now, it’s spring and the expectation is to go on walks and picnics as the pace of our social life picks up.

This can be abrupt, especially in a season where trees release pollen. Unbelievably, there’s a connection between suicide and hay fever sufferers. So, be easy on yourself as we transition into this more active season. If you’re invited to three outings, choose one or two.

This week, I was invited as a guest on the podcast “Teaching Yourself to Learn” and I asked the audience my three questions: how do you give back, what’s missing and how do you show up.

You, my dear friends, have given so much to so many. In this unsettled time of year, take time to connect with your support system. Ask for help, which could be a cup of tea with a friend. I’m here for you. If you need to chat, schedule a time to air what’s on your mind.

T.S. Eliot states that “April is the cruelest month.” Feel what’s coming up.

Slow down, even as expectations gear up. Allow the extra oxygen from the new leaves to revitalize you. Don’t fuss and finagle. Winter’s over. Stand in your power. Let nature remind you of life’s beauty and wonder.

You might be asking yourself, “What’s ahead in this new season? How much energy do I need? How can I show up?”

Allow this time of change to create room for growth.

Let the seeds you planted during the cold winter months emerge in the warming sun.

Take a stroll and ask yourself, "What's missing?" There’s space for new experiences. You get to choose.

I encourage my clients to pay attention to how hard transitions can be.

How was the time change for you?

Was it hard to get out of bed?

In photography, the blue and golden hours are just before and after sunrise and sunset.

Those in-between times are where the magic lies.

What’s in your picture?

As we transition into a new season,

Take a moment and listen to my interview on the Teaching Yourself to Learn podcast.
