June 2023 Newsletter   How will you allow this abundant season to support you?

What is in your daily routine that allows you to enjoy life, and, at the same time, make the world a better place? This is a rich and generous time of year. There is an innocence in the air, before the full-on energy of summer. Take note of best practices to magnify your energy.

This month includes the summer solstice and the longest day of the year. Rest completely in the few hours of nighttime. These weeks that approaches the solstice are sweet. The days continue to lengthen. There’s an expansion of energy as the trees unfurl their beauty, and vegetables and flowers burst into new stages of growth and abundance. Breathe in the cherry and apple blossoms’ sweetness. Close your eyes and soak in the ephemeral scents of lilacs and peonies.

In Native American tradition, we move from the time of the child in the spring to the teenager in the summer. We’re in the tween stage, when life is unruly, hormones run rampant, and curfews are extended. Tap into this energy. Rest in the shade of a tree’s newly emergent leaves that weren’t there a few weeks ago. Meditate on the abundance of Mother Earth. Whether you are in a rural or urban landscape, revel in the sights and sounds of people recreating. Invite friends and loved ones to mindfully share a hike, bike, or time with you in the garden or on a playground.

Allow your meal prep to include the abundant fresh vegetables from your farmer’s market. Taste the baby greens, radishes, asparagus,  and strawberries. Very little salad dressing is needed. Choosing lighter, more easily digestible  foods allows your body more energy for other activities.

Put a spring in your step and keep your sneakers next to the door for quick exercise snacks through the day. Walk when it’s cool at the beginning and end of the day. Does the water call to you? Try stand up paddle boarding (SUP), a sunset kayak ride, or swim the perimeter of your local pond.

What is your time of genius? What time of year do you feel the best? How can you capitalize on that? For each season, create a list of goals-what you’d like to accomplish on body, mind, and soul levels. Include fun. Schedule rest. Who’s invited?

Embrace the time of year that speaks to you. How does this season differ from others? Pay attention to opportunities for connection. How will you allocate your energy? Having an overview of expectations can help prevent shortfalls of time and energy.

Each season has its beauty. How will you make the most of this one? What can you give back? Plant a garden or a few pots with your favorite tastes, scents or colors. Remember the pollinators, and protect wildlife-throw a party!

June 1 is my favorite day of the year. What’s yours? Make the most of the long days and short nights. It’s a change of season for a reason.
